Serre Chevalier

Serre Chevalier is the collective name for the four main areas which all have access to the Grand Serre Che ski area. These towns have a mix of traditional rustic French buildings alongside some purpose built and unsightly buildings.

There are lots of little villages where you can base yourself, but although they are pretty to look at there isn’t a whole lot going on. There is a free bus service between the different resorts, and although a car is not essential it is probably worth having one.

Serre Chevalier is a great mountain for cruising and free ride; and has some fantastic tree lined slopes as well as some decent off piste.

Pros

  • It’s a large carried mountain with a lot of excellent tree skiing.
  • It’s one of the few large French ski resorts still based around characterful villages.
  • There’s plenty of good value accommodation and restaurants.

Cons

  • The lift system needs upgrading and there are queues during the French holidays.
  • The nightlife is limited.
  • The villages are fragmented, and there’s some unsightly 60s architecture.
